Bordermarkers 338 - 349
A long , straight and flat borderline.
Coming first from the South, I started the hike at bordermarker 338. On my way in the car, some borderguards stopped me. I didn't have to introduce myself, they were well informed and knew exactly why I was here. They were friendly, interested and helpful. Usually I am never fond of approaching border crossings, most staff at bordercrossings is mistrustful when you are there with a camera and without the intention to cross the border. When I asked how to reach bm 341.1 at Vel'ke Slemence, they said they would inform their colleagues at that bordercrossing and that I could go their. It wouldn't be a problem and indeed, also these borderguards welcomed me and helped me.

From Ruská there was a small road to the border. In the earlier days you could cross the border there but now the road was dead ending. Only used by the Border Police and farmers. I Parked my car there and hiked from here up to 341 and back.

I approached the border crossing Vel'ke Slemence. To avoid easy illegal border crossing, the Slovakians placed high fences. Of course I took the right part of the fence.

Here starts the strange and short 'V' in the border line.

Border marker 341
The second pair of the 'V'. Cameras in all directions.
he Ukrainian border marker lost it's colors'. Point with the mouse on the picture for a close-up.
You can also see the detection-cables in the fence.
Here I had o return, there was an area of the Border Police that I couldn't enter.

The Border Police officers that I met at BM 338 told me to go here. This bordercrossing is only used for pedestrians. It's really very small and the atmosphere is pleasant. The Ukrainian staff and the Slovakian staff are close to each other.
At the left you see a kind of a old wooden gate, looks like a monument. This one is on the Slovakian side. A similar copy is on the right on the Ukrainian side of the border.

At this bordercrossing I was welcomed by two friendly and helpful Border Police Officers. They allowed me to make some pictures in the area and to walk from here to the next border markers.
The border runs between the fence on the right and the information board.
The wooden gate is on the Ukrainian side.

EE-RU 20160415 Border marker 341/1
This pair of markers is located north of the border crossing carries the number 341/1. Strange enough number 342 doesn't exist.

South of the bordercrossing. The officers allowed me to go to the other side of the fence. However, I had to walk close to the fence.

Border marker 343
The last angle of the 'V' in the borderline.
342 is really not there, I couldn't have missed it. On the background an old Russian watchtower. It's now habited by an Ukrainian doll.

It's again a straight line. I'm still on the the 'wrong' side of the fence.

The fence ended somewhere here.

A nice strip. On the background you see some water. Here I returned to the bordercrossing Vel'ke Slemence.
The Border Police officers told me the way to their colleagues Mat'ovske and told they were waiting for me there. (See previous page 321-333)

This one and the next two markers I visited from the small village Ptrukša. It was more convenient and the markers are situated quiet far from eachother.

EE-RU 20160415 Puddles in between
Hugh puddles which I had to cross or to avoid. But of course I got wet feet.

EE-RU 20160415 Border marker 348
Similar to most other markers here...

EE-RU 20160415 Border marker 349
The last one for now here.

EE-RU 20160415 Pool
This water I couldn't cross without high boots.
So I returned to my car in Ptrukša.
